Mike Duggan was born on July 15, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan. He is 67 years old. He is the son of Patrick Duggan, a federal judge, and Joan Colosimo Duggan. He is of white ethnicity and raised Catholic.

He graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and later received a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Michigan Law School.

Career

Duggan began his career in public service as an assistant in the Wayne County Executive’s Office and later served as Wayne County Prosecutor from 2001 to 2003. He later became president and CEO of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), where he was praised for turning around the financially struggling hospital system.

In 2013, Duggan ran for mayor of Detroit. Although he was initially removed from the ballot due to a technicality, he mounted a successful write-in campaign and won. He officially took office in January 2014.

As mayor, Duggan focused on restoring basic city services, reducing blight, revitalizing neighborhoods, and improving public safety. He was reelected in 2017 and again in 2021.
